"Thich Quang Duc"C
(Note:
This hand-drawn/mixed media design is printed with the honorable
monk centered on chest, In 1963, Thich Quang Duc gave his life to protest the violence and brutal repression perpetrated through government power. It was a statement that goes beyond any one government or issue - the ultimate sacrifice made - illustrating the state of world organization. Quang Duc, assessing the terrible state of war and government brutality, set himself on fire in a busy Saigon intersection while meditating and died, unflinchingly, for the world to see. Thanks to the famous picture taken by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Malcolm Browne, Quang Duc’s sacrifice and political statement continues to illustrate the sense of hopelessness and frustration endured by we, the masses, under those who wield power and wealth against us for their own unending gain.
